The first assignment from LA101H I
have displayed is the Policy Paper. For
this paper, I was asked to think of an issue and write about how we as
students, and as a nation, could solve this issue. I found this paper interesting to write, as
the topic I chose was to get more people our age involved with current
events. It was different because it’s
not something that can necessarily be regulated. So, I had to think outside of my comfort zone
in order to come up with a policy that would solve this issue.
The second assignment posted is an excerpt from my Rhetoric and Civil Life blog. For this blog, I was supposed to write about the use of rhetoric in our everyday lives. This required deeper thinking because I had to analyze my daily life in a way I never had before. I typically don’t think much about the rhetoric that is used, and when I started to, I realized how important rhetoric is in our lives. It truly gave me a different outlook on life.
Lastly, I posted my Rhetorical Analysis essay. This, like the rhetoric and Civil Life blog, required me to analyze something in our daily lives like I had never done before. I was asked to analyze the rhetoric used in commercials. I have learned that with rhetoric, advertisers are able to draw in customers to get them to buy their product. While I knew there were “advertising tricks,” this assignment taught me how to pinpoint each and every one of them, and taught me how these tricks are all a form of rhetoric.
